How I got Interested in Hair Loss & Thinning Hair
It all started when I was just a kid in Cape Town, South Africa, where my father also a pharmacist & chemist had a pharmacy. He was one of the few that specialized in pharmacognosy, the study of how plants can be used for medicinal purposes.
Dad used to concoct all kinds of remedies for all kinds of health ailments, and that he sold in his pharmacy. He also had treatments for hair and skin.
It was during this safari vacation in East Africa that he would come smack up against a milestone in his business career.
In those days it was a very popular vacation to take a boat cruise up the coast of South Africa and then tour the various tribes of the region.
These tribal people’s did not seem to have the same worries as we do in these times. Their main focus in life was to get rid of evil spirits!
The tribes performed all kinds of rituals in order to weed out bad spirits and each one seemed to have a signature ritual. Some threw bones, and whoever the bone pointed to would be exorcised, freed of evil spirits.
My father noticed that one particular tribe had incredible thick, full and lustrous hair as well as youthful skin, as compared to the other tribes that had thinning, ‘mousy’ looking hair and wrinkly skin. My father’s curiosity was thoroughly piqued and he investigated. What he found out was totally amazing.
With help from the tour guide and conversation with the chief of the tribe, my father found out that this particular tribe performed a unique ritual.
They gathered plants, roots, flowers, leaves and the extracts from the barks of trees and mixed this all into a paste form. Then they applied this to their face and heads. At night they danced around the fire, faced up to the moon.
They believed that in this way, evil spirits would be exorcised. They did not realize that what they were giving themselves was the best beauty treatment available.
My father asked them to prepare him a few buckets of their concoction and he took it back to Cape Town where he started to add various percentages to his hair and skin care products. Customers came back with all kinds of incredible success stories describing reductions in hair loss and even new hair growth!
These formulations became high in demand all over the country. Even the Professor of Medicine at the University of Cape Town used Dad’s products.
And so the ‘secrets of the plant life of South Africa’ began. I was always so amazed and intrigued how nature can be the best remedy for problems like thinning hair and hair loss. I decided to become a Pharmacist and Chemist like my father, and I made it my mission to enhance and improve in his formulas.
Because of the tenuous political situation in South Africa, we decided to immigrate to Vancouver, British Columbia as our new home. Here, I researched and explored everything that could incorporate the latest in hair technology into my fathers original formula. I am happy to say that the formulas I have today are probably the most complete and comprehensive blend of hair-growing nutrients ever assembled. There are no other formulas of this kind in the world.
To understand how unique my formulas are, let’s talk about why hair loss happens.
Contributing factors to hair loss
There are a number of reasons for hair loss. Half the battle is to determine exactly which contributing factors causes our hair loss.
The first and most obvious contributing factor is genetics. Many people are predisposed towards hair loss from either their parent or grandparent. We cannot choose our parents, so there is not much we can do about that!
However there are many other factors that cause hair loss that we can do something about.
Clogged follicles
One of the most common cause is clogged follicles. Every hair follicle has attached to it a sebaceous gland that secretes a waxy, oily sebum. Some people have an overactive sebaceous gland and the oily sebum accumulates and clogs the hair follicle. Hair simply cannot grow. By simply dissolving this sebum, hair can automatically grow. The results are dramatic!
Blood supply reduction
The next contributing factor is a lack of blood supply to the hair follicle. Sometimes when the scalp is too tight and thin, the blood flow to the hair follicle is cut off or restricted and the hair simply can not grow properly. By increasing circulation with ingredients that stimulate action on the scalp, and by using the right scalp massage techniques, results can be amazing!
DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) buildup
A very common known cause of hair loss is the build up of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) in the hair follicle. DHT causes the hair follicles to shrink. DHT comes from testosterone which is converted to DHT by the enzyme 5-AR (Alpha Reductase). So the goal is to reduce this enzyme so the conversion does not take place. Drugs can help, but my formulations help reduce it naturally.
Other factors
Other contributing factors to hair loss include:
- stress
- poor scalp hygiene
- low- protein diets
- birth control medications
- menopause
- certain kinds of drugs
I have taken all these contributing factors into consideration and incorporated ingredients to overcome them all. You do not have to worry about the cause, because with Herbal Glo, you are getting a multi-prong attack.
